Getting the Ax?

About a month ago in April, rumors were flying around the web speculating that the 17 inch MacBook Pro was going to be discontinued. And I am here to tell you that, sadly, we still don’t know. As of right now, Apples website lists them as being available and being in stock, so if you still want to get your hands on one, you better whip out your credit cards and find your way to an Apple supplier while you are still able to, because you never know how long it will be around.

Why would they get rid of this Macbook? Rumors are that it is due to this year’s 17 inch MacBook Pros poor sales and also that newer models will be revamped all together.

Out With the Old

There are always a handful of rumors concerning Apple flying around in cyber news, so what makes this one credible in any way? Possibly, because Apple has always tried to streamline all of their product lines; using an “out with the old, in with the new” method of thinking. And when Apple isn’t selling a product, it doesn’t seem to stick around for very long.

In the past, when a newer better Apple product is released then the older model is put out of production because their sales would drop. What kind of new? Well rumor has it that Apple will soon be debuting an Apple device that is a merged creation of both the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. Saying it will be more portable then the Pro and more powerful then the Air.

What to Expect When Your Expecting

Originally, the MacBook Pro was set to be released this month sometime. But why give the masses what they have been waiting for, when they want it? Why not make them wait a little longer and try to get the hype up (and not to mention sales)? Well this is exactly what Apple is doing, and pushing its release date to July 2012 saying that while there is a release in the near future, chain suppliers are seeing labor shortages and massive amounts of orders, making it difficult to fill orders by the original release date given.

What makes this Apple MacBook Pro 17 inch so desirable? Here are just some of the techs and specs you will see once you open the shiny new box:

The new, OS X Lion, which will support and run over 250 new features including Multi touch gestures, Mission control and full screen apps.
Quad core Intel core i7 processors with up to 2.5GHz with a turbo boost speeding up to 3.6GHz
Memory up to 8GB
A 750GB hard drive
Thunderbolt technology- Macs brand new I/O technology
A battery life up to 7 hours

Apple’s Labor Pains Delaying the Birth of The New MacBook Pro

There are signs pointing to the release of the MacBook Pro2012 on the horizon though- Best Buy has amped up there sales on last year’s MacBooks, bringing the savings up to almost $200. In the past when Best Buy has done this (with the IPad2 right before the release of the iPad 3) we saw a release in just weeks. As mentioned earlier though, will lack of labor support for Apple hinder the release? It is possible that Best Buy is jumping the gun, or has wishful thinking just like the rest of us.

It is hard to say when we will get to see the 2012 MacBook Pro, but we can say (with a little hope and pleading) that they will be here eventually. But will the 17 inch screen be among the lineup? And if they are, how long will they be around? We will just have to wait and see.
