A brand new studio has been formed by Strategic Simulations Interactive (SSI) alumni called Tactical Simulations Interactive, or TSI for short. This new studio was formed with the goal of bringing back and capturing the spirit of the golden age of pen and paper RPG’s from the 80’s and 90’s. For those of you (like myself) that were too young or couldn’t afford the hefty PC prices back then, SSI was originally known for creating classic pen and paper-inspired RPG’s.

Announced alongside the creation of the studio is their very first game. Entitled Seven Dragon Saga, TSI is hyping the game up as an “original and epic role-play adventure” that is being developed with the highly popular Unity3D engine. Set in an original and high-powered fantasy world, the story will be centered around the Empire of the Seven Dragons. The team promises that the plot will not be cliche and instead opt to explore the ins and outs of power and how people can abuse it. Your choices will matter in the game, be it siding with different factions or peoples, and that will directly influence your story and the people around you.

Your party will consist of effective heroes right from the start, which I take to mean that your characters will be meaningful and not the typical weaklings at the beginning like most RPG’s. The game will, however, contain more traditional RPG tropes like turn-based combat, the ability to recruit and hire NPC’s to join your party, and a crafting system. Together, your party, called The Touched, will travel the Empire on a quest to discover the truth behind the powers that be and ultimately decide the fate of the entire country. The team will be developing their own pen and paper-style role-playing system as the foundation for Seven Dragons Saga. Are you excited for this old school-inspired RPG?
