A Hacker has announced today startling news that the ever-popular Super Smash Bros. could very well have an eight player mode hidden deep within the game’s files. The recently released fighting game from Nintendo, Super Smash Bros. 4 has a slew of new modes and features not found in previous games, such as the new Smash Run mode exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version. There are also several hidden characters spread throughout the game with secret objectives needed to be fulfilled in order to unlock them, so it is no surprise that Nintendo might have some other secrets hidden in development for the game.

Also, being developed for the very first time for a portable system, many limitations prevented several modes from being implemented into the final version of Super Smash Bros. A hacker from Sounds Resource, a website dedicated to allowing users to share soundtracks and samples of music taken from video games, has dug deep into the files of Smash Bros. and found many unused audio files that hint at other game modes. These audio files consist of Smash Bros’ announcer announcing different modes, including an eight player mode called “8 Player Smash”. Boss Battle, Event Match, and Tourney are other previously existing modes that were found in the files.

There are many different explanations for why these files exist. They could be features that in the end were scrapped, possible DLC expansions, or even modes that will be exclusive to the Wii U version coming soon. Let us know if you’re enjoying Smash Bros or if you’re waiting for the Wii U version to hit on November 21st. And for all things Nintendo, keep it right here.
